It now features two cell culture rooms classified by clean management grade, a human cell storage room, a QC laboratory, a records storage room, and a raw materials storage room, making it safer and more specialized. This transformation created an optimal environment for the development and commercialization research of advanced regenerative medicine technologies. The planning to completion process took approximately 12 months.
At this facility, sample production and quality control in the field of advanced regenerative medicine will be conducted, which is expected to activate clinical research and strengthen the foundation for practical research. It is anticipated to become an important stepping stone for the development and commercialization of radiation fusion advanced regenerative medicine technologies.
In particular, the Southeast Regional Radiation Medicine Institute is expected to offer hope to patients with severe intractable diseases by proposing advanced regenerative medical treatments through specialized platforms such as radiation-based NK cell mass culture technology. The institute plans to create innovative outcomes by activating translational research between MDs and PhDs, which is its unique strength.
In his commemorative speech, Director Lee Chang-hoon said, “Thanks to the great interest and support from Busan City in the biohealth sector, an environment has been created that allows us to focus on the development of advanced regenerative medicine. Busan has the best healthcare service infrastructure outside the metropolitan area and produces more than 3,000 specialized professionals in the medical bio field every year.” He added, “If this environment, specialized workforce, and bio companies cooperate, Busan will become a global bioindustry hub leading the advanced regenerative medicine industry.”
He continued, “The role of the institute, a science and technology specialized hospital under the Ministry of Science and ICT, is very important for the activation of bio research and development and industry, and we will do our best to fulfill our responsibilities.”
