He emphasized, "Jeonnam's recent major economic indicators have risen to the mid-tier level, but the situation remains challenging due to the current state of martial law and impeachment politics. Next year, let's overcome these difficult circumstances wisely and unite our efforts toward a 'Greater Jeonnam.'
According to recent data released by Statistics Korea, Jeonnam's average household income is 66.09 million won, ranking 8th nationwide; per capita personal income is 23.75 million won, ranking 9th; and the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) is 96.2 trillion won, placing 8th, thereby maintaining mid-tier levels in various economic indicators.
Despite these figures, Governor Kim encouraged further effort, stating, "The economy remains difficult overall, with the operation rate of the Yeosu National Industrial Complex dropping to the 70% range, so even greater effort is needed."
Governor Kim highlighted this year's major provincial achievements as follows: ▲ Agreement to establish a national medical school at Jeonnam Integrated University ▲ Groundbreaking of the Yeosu Myodo LNG Terminal with a scale of 1.4 trillion won ▲ Launch of Jeonnam K-Tourism! 2024~2026 Jeonnam World Tourism Culture Expo ▲ 180 billion won in agricultural disaster compensation for rice planthopper and others ▲ Announcement and completion of social security consultations for Jeonnam's basic birth allowance ▲ Selection of the Jeolla Line High-Speed Railway Project for preliminary feasibility study ▲ Passing of the preliminary feasibility study for the Gangjin~Wando Expressway, among others.
He further reiterated, "Jeonnam is rich in great and glorious historical, cultural, and traditional heritage, and its development potential is more than sufficient. In 2025, let's think about how each sector and department can further advance, set our vision, and realize a great leap forward toward a 'Greater Jeonnam.'
Regarding overall integrity, Governor Kim said, "We achieved a grade 3 this year, up one level from last year. Although we did not reach our goal of grade 2, I believe this is a meaningful result. Let's address shortcomings in each department so we can achieve a higher grade next year, and especially prepare to receive even better evaluations from the residents."
