Gijang-gun to Open Gateway to Cheolma on 24th... Opening of Connecting Road between Cheolma and Geumjeong Seondong
2.3km Section Opening, Improved Mutual Accessibility... Expected Increase in Tourists to Cheolma-myeon Including Busan Healing Forest
Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) announced on the 23rd that the "Cheolma Jangjeon 2-gyo to Geumjeong-gu Seondong Connecting Road" (Cheolmacheon-ro) will officially open from the 24th after a long period of construction.
The newly opened Cheolmacheon-ro is a road connecting Cheolma-myeon in Gijang-gun and Seondong in Geumjeong-gu, with a length of L=2383m. Construction initially began in 2009, but the project faced difficulties due to the construction company's bankruptcy and subsequent suspension of work. However, construction resumed in 2021, leading to completion after approximately 15 years.
With the completion of this project, the existing 5m-wide unpaved road has been significantly expanded to a 15m-wide road. A two-lane road for vehicles, along with sidewalks including a bicycle path, has been established connecting the Cheolma area in Gijang and the Seondong area in Geumjeong.
This is expected to improve mutual accessibility between the two regions. In particular, it will enhance access to the Healing Forest in Cheolma-myeon, Gijang-gun, and is anticipated to greatly increase demand from walkers enjoying the natural surroundings near Hoedong Reservoir as well as from bicycle users.

Governor Jeong Jong-bok expressed, "I deeply thank the residents of Cheolma-myeon who have patiently waited for the road to open over a long period." He added, "Since Cheolma-myeon in Gijang-gun is known as a region famous for clean agricultural products and Korean beef bulgogi set against a pristine natural environment, the opening of this road and improved accessibility are expected to lead to a remarkable increase in visitors to Cheolma-myeon."
