Seoul Yongsan-gu Tops Last Year’s Per Capita Average Comprehensive Income with 130 Million Won
National Tax Service Publishes 2023 Comprehensive Income Tax Total Income Amount
Last year, the region with the highest average comprehensive income amount per person was 'Yongsan-gu, Seoul,' where an average of 130 million KRW per person was reported.
According to the "2023 Comprehensive Income Tax Comprehensive Income Amount" released by the National Tax Service on the 20th, the number of taxpayers who filed comprehensive income tax last year was 11.48 million, an increase of 11.7% compared to the previous year (10.28 million).
The comprehensive income amount for the 2023 tax year was 386 trillion KRW, and the determined tax amount was 52 trillion KRW, rising by 14.2% and 8.3% respectively compared to the previous year. Over the past five years, the number of filers, comprehensive income amounts, and determined tax amounts have continuously increased. The National Tax Service analyzed that this improvement is due to the "All-Fill" service, which pre-calculates and fills in items such as income amount and tax amount on the comprehensive income tax return, thereby enhancing filing convenience.
Among 229 cities, counties, and districts nationwide, the region with the highest average comprehensive income amount per person was Yongsan-gu, Seoul (130 million KRW), followed by Gangnam-gu (117 million KRW) and Seocho-gu (109 million KRW).
The share of the top 1% in the total comprehensive income amount was 21.1%, down about 1.8 percentage points from the previous year (22.9%). The share of the determined tax amount was 49.3%, about 1.6 percentage points lower than the previous year (50.9%).
The top 10% accounted for 52.1% of the total comprehensive income amount and 84.8% of the determined tax amount, decreasing by 2.2 percentage points and 1.1 percentage points respectively compared to the previous year. The shares of the top 1% and 10% in the total comprehensive income amount and determined tax amount are gradually declining.
Among the comprehensive income tax filers for the 2023 tax year, the proportion of taxpayers with a determined tax amount of '0' KRW (exempt taxpayers) was 24.7% (2.84 million people). While the number of exempt taxpayers is increasing along with the rise in filers, the proportion of exempt taxpayers is gradually decreasing.
