Lotte Mart and Super were recognized for their ESG project newly launched this year, ‘Bada愛(Jinshim)’, which focuses on the sea and carries out organic environmental, social, and governance (ESG) activities. This project is a sustainable ESG activity organically linked with the core elements of the distribution industry, including products, partners, and customers.
On this day, Kang Sung-hyun, CEO of Lotte Mart and Super, said, “We are very honored that the efforts we have made to fulfill corporate social responsibility have been recognized through this award,” and added, “We will continue to devote ourselves sincerely to various ESG activities, using the results of the ‘Bada愛(Jinshim)’ project as a stepping stone.”
Since March, Lotte Mart and Super have been conducting ESG activities themed around the sea under the slogan ‘Loving the Sea, with Sincerity,’ focusing on ▲marine environment conservation ▲coexistence with fishing villages through support for fishery workers ▲sustainable seafood supply.
As the first activity, in May, they carried out ‘Sea Forest Cultivation’ by planting 4,000 Zostera marina seedlings, a marine carbon sink (blue carbon). In July, under the theme of ‘Coexistence with Fishing Villages,’ they supported Wando Abalone Co., Ltd., in Wando County, where about 1,200 fishing households are shareholders, by providing a water temperature and dissolved oxygen monitoring system for sustainable abalone farming. In August, they held a ‘Children’s Marine Ecology Camp’ to raise awareness among future generations about the importance of marine ecosystem conservation.

As a result of this promotion, a total of 30 million KRW was raised as environmental donations. The donations were used to purchase about 550 biodegradable crab traps, which were delivered to the fishing cooperative in Jangjado, Gunsan City, Jeollabuk-do. This contributed to improving the causes of fishery environment destruction and promoting sustainable fishing activities.
