Bar Association: "President Yoon Seok-yeol's Trial Must Proceed Swiftly"
Amid the passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol in the National Assembly, the Korean Bar Association (KBA) issued a statement to the Constitutional Court, urging that "the trial process be conducted properly and swiftly."
The KBA also stated, "Competition and confusion among investigative agencies should be resolved by the appointment of a special prosecutor, and we are gathering opinions from our members to recommend a special prosecutor." The KBA added, "The declaration of martial law caused anxiety among the people and led to numerous domestic and international issues for the country," and said, "Since the impeachment motion has been passed, we hope that the executive functions will be restored and that the National Assembly will cooperate to stabilize the unstable political situation."

At the same time, the KBA urged, "There should be no human rights violations or breaches of related laws in investigative procedures such as detention of suspects." The KBA also stated, "Until the current chaotic situation caused by the declaration of martial law is resolved according to the constitutional order, we will faithfully fulfill our fundamental role as protectors of the people and watchdogs of power."
