Namyangju-si, Sudong-myeon Welfare Center Renovated After 33 Years
Expectations for Improving the Quality of Life of Local Residents
Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 13th that it has completed the construction of a new welfare center building after demolishing the old welfare center in Naebang-ri, Sudong-myeon, which had been in use for over 30 years.
The existing Sudong-myeon Welfare Center (located at 23-1 Naebang-ri, Sudong-myeon), completed in 1991, was an aging building over 33 years old that required continuous safety management, and modernization of the facilities was needed to improve the environment for welfare center users. Accordingly, the city began promoting the project in 2021 when it established the plan to build a new Sudong-myeon Welfare Center.
The new building, consisting of a daycare center for children and welfare facilities for the elderly, was constructed with a budget of 2.61 billion KRW (850 million KRW from provincial special grants and 1.76 billion KRW from city funds). The building has a total floor area of 493.17㎡ and is a three-story structure above ground. Construction started in February this year and was completed at the end of last month.
The newly renovated Sudong-myeon Welfare Center’s first floor is designated as a municipal daycare center, providing local children with a safe and comfortable environment. The second and third floors are arranged for multipurpose use, including a senior citizens’ hall and a village meeting hall. Notably, the second floor is equipped with sauna facilities, which are expected to contribute to improving the quality of life for the elderly and other local residents.
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok of Namyangju City said, “I hope that residents, including children and seniors, can actively communicate and fully enjoy a happy rest in the newly renovated space,” adding, “We will continue to make our best efforts to bring vitality to citizens’ daily lives and maximize their happiness index.”
