"Incheon City and Gyeonggi-do Launch Task Force to Establish World's No.1 Bio-Specialized Complex"
Incheon City, together with Gyeonggi Province, has launched a Bio Specialized Complex Promotion Team, taking the first step toward establishing the world's number one bio mega cluster.
The promotion team was established following the designation of Incheon City and Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province as government national advanced strategic industry specialized complexes in June. Its goal is to strengthen competitiveness in the advanced bio-industry sector and to advance the ecosystem through cooperation among industry, academia, research, and government.
Ha Byung-pil, Deputy Mayor of Incheon City, and Ko Young-in, Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province for Economic Affairs, will serve as co-heads of the team, and the secretariat office will be set up at Incheon Technopark. Moving forward, the promotion team plans to collaborate with research institutes, universities, and companies to secure new growth engines for 'K-Bio.'
To this end, detailed implementation plans will be prepared by sector, including research and development (R&D), infrastructure, corporate support, and talent cultivation, with full-scale project promotion scheduled to begin in the first half of next year.
At the launch ceremony held on the 12th at Michuhol Tower in Songdo International City, attendees included Deputy Mayor Ha, Siheung City Deputy Mayor Park Seung-sam, representatives from universities such as Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Incheon National University, and Inha University, as well as research institutes and bio companies including Incheon Technopark, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Korea Testing & Research Institute, Samsung Biologics, Celltrion, and Lotte Biologics.
Incheon is home to world-class biopharmaceutical companies and is recognized for its competitiveness as a global production hub. Siheung hosts Seoul National University’s Siheung Campus, and Seoul National University Hospital and Dental Hospital are planned to be constructed there.
