"'Avoid Impeachment at All Costs' Yoo Jeong-bok Withdraws Position... 'President's Situation Awareness Is Flawed'"
Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok, affiliated with the People Power Party, expressed a position that President Yoon Seok-yeol should be impeached in relation to the emergency martial law situation.
On the 12th, Mayor Yoo stated on Facebook, "Judging from President Yoon's statement today, the president's perception of the situation is still fundamentally flawed," and "I withdraw my previous stance that impeachment must be avoided." He explained, "This is to prevent the phenomenon of declining national competitiveness caused not only by the inability to quell public anger but also by ongoing public anxiety, government confusion, and loss of credibility."
Mayor Yoo emphasized, "The current state caused by President Yoon's declaration of martial law is a chaotic situation where government affairs are almost paralyzed," and "It is President Yoon's fault that such a situation has arisen, and the president should rightly bear the responsibility."
He added, "The people judge that a president who has lost the ability to govern should no longer remain in office and are demanding a prompt resignation," and "I hope the National Assembly, as the representative body of the people, respects the will of the people."
Mayor Yoo clarified, "This position is not that of the People Power Party Governors' Council but my personal stance as Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok." He serves as the chairman of the People Power Party Governors' Council.
Earlier, on the 6th, the council issued a statement opposing the impeachment of President Yoon, emphasizing the need to prevent any further suspension of the constitutional order. The council requested President Yoon to "form an emergency national unity cabinet led by a responsible prime minister and step back to a secondary role," and "clearly announce future political schedules such as a constitutional amendment to shorten the presidential term."
