Mapo-gu Mangwon Youth Culture Center Awarded Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Prize
Media Art 'RemindLow: Festival of Heroes' Light' Reflecting on Veterans' History Planned by Youth
Opening Ceremony Invites 12 War Veterans from Mapo-gu Veterans Hall for Declaration Reading and Thank You Letters Delivery
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su)'s Mapo Public Mangwon Youth Culture Center was honored with the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Award at the '2024 Veterans Culture Experience Activity Excellent Program Competition.'
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs selected 100 institutions nationwide in January 2024 through a public contest for organizations to carry out projects themed on patriotism and veterans affairs in the fields of independence, defense, democracy, and public interest protection.
Afterward, through expert evaluation of the implemented projects, the top 10 outstanding institutions, including the Mapo Public Mangwon Youth Culture Center, were selected and awarded certificates and prize money on November 26.
The Mapo Public Mangwon Youth Culture Center held a media art exhibition titled "Remind Row: Festival of Heroic Light" both offline and online from September 27 to October 2, contributing to the spread of veterans culture within the community.
In particular, this exhibition received favorable reviews as it was planned and operated directly by youth to recall the history of veterans, which is gradually being forgotten.
Additionally, the youth invited 12 veterans to the opening ceremony of the exhibition at the Mapo-gu Veterans Hall, where they read the veterans declaration together and delivered letters of gratitude expressing respect, leading the way in honoring the veterans.
The media art exhibition organized by the Mapo Public Mangwon Youth Culture Center attracted 368 offline visitors and 4,292 online viewers over six days.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "In these times when the spirit of national defense and veterans is fading, it is commendable that young people themselves honored the dedication and sacrifice of veterans and widely promoted veterans culture in the local community," adding, "Mapo-gu will continue to do its best for the proper growth of youth and the spread of veterans culture."
Meanwhile, the Mapo Public Mangwon Youth Culture Center was also selected as an excellent national youth operation committee in August and received the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Award for Excellence.
