Selected as an Excellent Dementia Management Case through Customized Services for Recipients and Public-Private Cooperation
Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it won two awards in two categories at the ‘2024 Seoul Dementia Management Project Performance Evaluation Competition’ held on December 12 at the auditorium of the Hansung Baekje Museum, earning the honor of a double crown.
The ‘Seoul Dementia Management Project Performance Evaluation Competition’ is held annually targeting the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul to strengthen the substance of dementia management projects and improve service quality.
At this competition, the district received high praise for providing customized dementia management services tailored to each target group and creating a dementia-friendly environment through the establishment of a cooperative system within the local community.
First, in the specialized project contest category, the ‘Maeum Deohagi+ (Mind Addition+)’ project won the ‘Grand Prize.’ This program was recognized for its excellence in supporting emotional stability and dementia prevention management for families of those with mild cognitive impairment and dementia, contributing to the restoration of family relationships.
The number of people with mild cognitive impairment is increasing every year, but due to a lack of social awareness, caregivers often fail to properly respond to symptoms caused by cognitive decline in the affected individuals. This leads to stress and depression for caregivers and can worsen family relationships.
In response, the district supported the emotional stability of both caregivers and affected individuals through the ‘Maeum Deohagi+’ program, systematically providing correct understanding and response methods for symptoms. The program consists of four stages, offering professional services tailored to each stage’s situation. It received high evaluations for establishing a close cooperative system with related organizations and providing one-on-one customized psychological counseling and emotional support activities. Through this, participants experienced not only emotional stability but also positive changes within their families and reaffirmed the importance of dementia prevention.
Additionally, in the public-private cooperation best practice contest category, the ‘2024, Dementia Together! Walking with Value’ project won the ‘Excellence Award.’ This project was selected as an exemplary case for establishing a cooperative system with nine local institutions and providing a ‘comprehensive dementia management service’ covering the entire process from dementia prevention to care. The project consists of three stages, including practical support measures for dementia patients and their families.
Based on these achievements, the district stated that it plans to further strengthen public-private cooperation to eliminate blind spots in dementia management and continue effective management and support.
