The Public Architecture Awards, organized annually by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, aim to share outstanding examples and achievements in public architecture. The event recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of public clients who have contributed to enhancing the quality of public buildings and infrastructure.
This year’s judging process focused on the project’s achievements and the innovative efforts of those involved, with on-site visits by the judges and interviews with project managers to select the final winners.
The Sudabeoks 2nd Branch serves as the Dangjin 2-dong Student Activity Community Hub Center, established as part of an urban regeneration project. The project faced challenges such as limitations in the design procurement system for small-scale buildings and insufficient project funds.
In response, Dangjin-si officials, designers, builders, the Youth Foundation, and youth representatives communicated closely to create a distinctive and functionally efficient structure using glulam timber and steel frames.
The architectural design was a joint effort by architect Jeong Hyo-gyeong of Sejong Architects Office and architect Yoon Yeogap of Local Urban Architecture Office Replatform Co., Ltd., while Cheonji Construction Co., Ltd. was responsible for construction.
In Soonhwan, Director of the Smart City Division, stated, "We are delighted that the efforts of Dangjin-si, the designers, and the builders have been recognized with this award," and added, "We will continue striving to create spaces that residents want to visit and that are beautiful in design."
