Korea Zinc Obtains Carbon Footprint Certification for Semiconductor Sulfuric Acid
Fourth Certification Following Zinc, Silver, and Copper Products
Korea Zinc has obtained a carbon footprint (PCF) certification for semiconductor sulfuric acid from the UK Carbon Trust.
On the 6th, Korea Zinc announced on the 9th that it held a certificate awarding ceremony for the semiconductor sulfuric acid carbon footprint certification at its headquarters in Seoul, attended by Kim Ki-jun, Vice President of the Sustainability Management Division, and Tom Cumberledge, Director of the Carbon Trust Certification Division.

Semiconductor sulfuric acid is one of the by-products generated during the smelting process and is a key material used to remove impurities on the surface of wafers during semiconductor manufacturing. These impurities affect the yield and reliability of semiconductors, making the cleaning process so important that it accounts for one-third of the entire semiconductor process. High-purity refined semiconductor sulfuric acid is required to remove and clean impurities on the wafer surface.
Korea Zinc’s semiconductor sulfuric acid production scale was 240,000 tons annually as of last year. This accounts for about 65% of the total domestic supply and is the largest scale worldwide. 98% of Korea Zinc’s production volume is supplied to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
