On the afternoon of the 7th, the Rotunda Hall at the entrance of the National Assembly plenary chamber became chaotic as members of the People Power Party leaving the chamber to oppose the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol clashed with Democratic Party officials advocating for impeachment.
The National Assembly held a plenary session at 5 p.m. that day and voted on the first agenda item, the appointment of a special prosecutor regarding suspicions of stock manipulation in the Deutsche Motors case involving First Lady Kim Geon-hee. The vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol was scheduled to follow.
After conducting a secret ballot on the special prosecutor appointment for Mrs. Kim, People Power Party members left the plenary chamber. Meanwhile, opposition party officials waiting outside the chamber shouted slogans such as "Impeach Yoon Seok-yeol," "Go in," and "Vote," resulting in a scuffle.
They surrounded ruling party members waiting by the National Assembly elevator to exit the chamber, repeatedly shouting "Collaborators" and "Impeachment." Some also made remarks like "Is this a country?" "People Power Party, you disgrace us," and "Aren't you ashamed?"
It is reported that about ten ruling party members, including Joo Ho-young, Yoon Sang-hyun, Ahn Cheol-soo, and Bae Hyun-jin, remain in the plenary chamber.
