Selected for Korea Forest Service Public Contest Project
Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) announced on the 4th that it has been selected for the Korea Forest Service's public project, the '2025 Domestic Timber Utilization Promotion Project.'
The Domestic Timber Utilization Promotion Project is a project promoted by the Korea Forest Service to revitalize the domestic timber industry and contribute to carbon neutrality by using domestic wood in public buildings and multi-use facilities.
With this selection, the city plans to invest 500 million KRW in 2025 to remodel the civil service office and community facilities of Namhansanseong-myeon Administrative Welfare Center into warm and friendly spaces created by wood, promoting the excellence of domestic timber and changing perceptions of wood.
So far, the city has been actively advancing efforts to promote wood use and wood culture, including the establishment of the Mokhyeon-dong Carbon Neutral Wood Education Comprehensive Center and signing a business agreement to revitalize wood culture in the carbon-neutral era.

Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “We will make every effort to maximize the environmental characteristics of the city, where 65% of the total area is forest, so that Gwangju City can play a leading role in spreading wood culture in the future.”
