Remodeling of the Old Seonghwadae... Establishing a Youth Startup Ecosystem
Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, is attracting attention with the ‘Millennium Culture Gangjin, Youth Glocal Platform Construction Project,’ which aims to remodel the closed Seonghwadae school into a core industrial hub leading the 4th Industrial Revolution.
According to the county on the 2nd, this project aims to transform the space into an activity area for youth through spatial innovation and convergence of the 4th Industrial Revolution in response to the population decline issue.

View original imageHaving been finally selected in last year’s ‘Jeonnam-type Balanced Development 300 Project’ hosted by Jeollanam-do and securing a total project budget of 33 billion KRW, the county has already purchased the old Seonghwadae site and buildings. Based on this, the county plans to foster innovation across various industrial sectors and establish infrastructure to support startup companies and young entrepreneurs.
The county is rapidly advancing administrative procedures aiming for construction in the second half of next year and is preparing support programs and incentives to facilitate easy settlement of companies on the old Seonghwadae campus. In particular, plans are being developed to assist startups and stabilize life in Gangjin through an incubating program for startup companies and young entrepreneurs in collaboration with Mokpo National University.

Gang Jin-won, the county governor, stated, “Since we have passed the central investment review, we will do our best for the successful revitalization of the old Seonghwadae,” adding, “We will devote ourselves to development for the future of the region.”
