Seosan City Actively Encourages Installation of Automatic Rooftop Door Openers
Automatic Opening Device: Normally Locked, Automatically Opens in Case of Fire
Conditional Requirement for Building Permits for Collective Buildings and Multi-Family Housing of Five Floors or More
On the 27th, Seosan City in Chungnam Province announced that it is requiring building owners to install automatic rooftop door openers as a condition for construction permits for collective buildings and apartment complexes with five or more floors.
The automatic rooftop door opener keeps the rooftop door locked under normal circumstances, preventing access to the rooftop and thereby helping to prevent crimes and extreme choices.
In the event of a fire, the opener is automatically unlocked in conjunction with fire protection systems, allowing the rooftop to be used as an evacuation facility.
The city is providing administrative guidance with construction permits, instructing applicants to submit supporting documents for the installation and approval of emergency automatic door openers.
The guidance also explains that products must be certified for performance and inspected in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
Kim Dongsik, head of the city's One-Stop Permit Division, said, "By actively encouraging the installation of automatic rooftop door openers, we aim to prevent crimes and extreme choices resulting from open rooftops in buildings with five or more floors, and to prevent large-scale casualties in emergencies such as building fires."
