Yeoncheon-gun Takes First Step in 'World Peace Garden Creation Project'
Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province has taken the first step toward the ‘World Peace Garden Creation Project.’
On the 27th, according to Yeoncheon-gun, the Korea Forest Service approved the designation of approximately 300,000㎡ of floodplain within the Gunam Flood Control Reservoir area in Samgot-ri, Jung-myeon, as a planned garden site. This is the first approval for a planned garden site designation in northern Gyeonggi Province.

View original imageThe World Peace Garden is a project to create an ecological garden centered on the Imjin River, a biosphere reserve, to promote ecological value widely and to pray for peace and ease tensions in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), a border area.
This designation of the planned garden site is the first phase of the World Peace Garden Creation Project, with detailed design for the local garden creation and approval of the local garden creation plan scheduled for 2025, followed by sequential garden construction.

A Yeoncheon-gun official stated, “We plan to proceed with the project as a substantial and creative garden creation project that reflects Yeoncheon’s unique character by incorporating various contents through consultations with related ministries according to administrative procedures and gathering opinions from residents and expert advisory groups.”
