From Next Year, Children and Teenagers in Chungnam Can Ride Buses for Free Up to Three Times a Day
Improvement of Refund Method for Chungnam-Style Affordable Transportation Card
Chungnam Province announced on the 25th that starting next year, the method of supporting bus fares for children and adolescents will be changed to a free boarding system.
Since 2022, the province has been the first in the country to implement a free bus fare policy for children and adolescents.
Under the current system, users pre-charge their Chungnam-style Altteul Transportation Card, use it for bus rides, and then receive a reimbursement as mileage through a dedicated app the following month, which is then transferred back to the transportation card.
However, as many have found this process inconvenient, the system will be improved to allow free boarding.
Starting January next year, children and adolescents will be able to ride buses for free up to three times per day, and from the fourth ride onward, the fare will be deducted from the balance charged to their transportation card. The existing transfer system by city and county will remain unchanged for free transfers.
A provincial official stated, "Over the past year, we have been preparing to improve the system to allow children and adolescents to receive bus fare support in a more convenient way through free boarding," and added, "As the process becomes simpler, we expect public transportation usage to increase."
