Chungnam Province to Operate Shelter for Abused Children with Disabilities Starting Next Year
Chungnam Province will begin operating a shelter for children with disabilities who are victims of abuse starting in 2025.
According to the province on the 21st, they plan to establish the shelter after being selected in a Ministry of Health and Welfare contest for the installation of such facilities.
The shelter for children with disabilities who are victims of abuse provides emergency protection, counseling, and support services for returning to daily life for children under the age of 18 who have been abused. Currently, such shelters are operating in five regions nationwide.
The number of children with disabilities who are victims of abuse in the province has been increasing every year, with 19 cases in 2022, 22 cases in 2023, and 27 cases in the first half of this year. For this reason, the province has focused its administrative efforts on being selected for this contest.
The province plans to select the location and complete the administrative procedures for the shelter within this year, and to finish the installation by the first half of next year.
A provincial official said, "We will accelerate the process of selecting the installation site so that the facility can be established as soon as possible," adding, "After the installation, we will ensure that emergency protection can be provided at any time when it is determined that separation from the original family is necessary."
