Buyeo County Attracts Korea Textile Development Institute Chungnam Branch
Agreement Signed for Establishment of Textile Development Institute and Chungnam Branch
Buyeo County, Chungnam, announced on the 18th that it has attracted the Chungnam branch of the Korea Textile Development Institute. The county expects this to become a significant turning point in the development of the bio-industry ecosystem.
On this day, the county signed a business agreement with the Korea Textile Development Institute at its main office in Daegu to establish the Chungnam branch.
This agreement was made following the county's selection in April for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's project to "Develop Biomass-Based Vegan Leather and Build a Demonstration Cluster."
The Chungnam branch will be established in Areum Village, Guyam-myeon, by 2027, with an investment of 13 billion KRW and a total floor area of approximately 2,840 square meters.
It will serve as a demonstration testbed for the development of vegan textile materials and prototype production, and will support companies in commercializing their technologies and entering the global market.
In particular, the county plans to recycle agricultural waste such as spent mushroom substrate generated locally into high-value-added vegan leather materials, contributing to solving environmental issues and promoting a circular resource economy.
Park Junghyun, the county governor, stated, "Through today's agreement, we have laid the foundation for making Buyeo a place where history, nature, and future innovation coexist," and added, "Beyond simply establishing a research institute, this will be an important opportunity for Buyeo County to play a leading role in the eco-friendly future industry."
He continued, "Since Buyeo General Industrial Complex and Eunsan 2nd Industrial Complex were finally selected as special opportunity development zones for secondary batteries on November 6, we will actively utilize this opportunity to discover related follow-up projects and attract companies, and will continue to cooperate with the Korea Textile Development Institute."
Meanwhile, the county produced 5,146 tons of button mushrooms last year, accounting for a 57.2% share of the national market, making it the main production area for button mushrooms in Korea.
