Environmental and Social Sector Rises Two Levels
Receives Evaluation for Sustainability and Trust System Improvement
HJ Heavy Industries received an overall 'A grade' in the 2024 ESG evaluation conducted by the Korea ESG Standards Institute.
The Korea ESG Standards Institute, a leading domestic ESG evaluation organization, annually assesses the sustainability management levels of listed companies in Korea across environmental, social, and governance sectors and announces ESG ratings.
HJ Heavy Industries announced on the 12th that it achieved an overall A grade, improving by one level from the previous year, with excellent ratings of Environmental (E) A, Social (S) A+, and Governance (G) B+.
The environmental and social sectors each rose by two levels compared to last year, significantly contributing to the increase in the overall rating.
According to HJ Heavy Industries, in the environmental sector, the company strengthened its momentum for environmental management through board-level management activities addressing climate change and major environmental issues. Additionally, based on an analysis of risks and opportunities related to carbon neutrality, it pursued the advancement of environmental management by establishing mid- to long-term goals and implementation strategies.
Furthermore, by building and operating an environmental data system at construction sites, the company enhanced the reliability of greenhouse gas emissions and various environmental-related data.
Moreover, it has promoted sustainable management in line with global standards, including joining the global environmental initiative CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).
In the social sector, HJ Heavy Industries strengthened its safety and health roles by establishing safety and health management policies and declaring mid- to long-term goals. The company was also evaluated positively for actively responding to human rights issues through a declaration of commitment to human rights management, policy establishment, risk due diligence processes, and the establishment of grievance channels.
It also received high marks for efforts to strengthen mutual growth by establishing fair trade policies, operating co-prosperity programs with partner companies, and enacting codes of conduct for partners.
An HJ Heavy Industries official explained, “As a result of all executives and employees paying attention to ESG management and focusing on improvement activities, our ESG evaluation rating has improved every year.”
