Pohang City Expands MICE Infrastructure and Cultural City Rebranding Network
November 11-18, Aiming to Expand International Network, Visit to Azerbaijan and Turkiye
Attending the 29th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties, Discussing Solutions to the Climate Crisis
Pohang City announced that Mayor Lee Kang-deok will lead an overseas business trip to Azerbaijan and T?rkiye from the 11th to the 18th, aiming to expand international networks for establishing a MICE city foundation and rebranding as a culture, tourism, and arts-centered city.
During this schedule, Mayor Lee will attend the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The conference will take place from the 11th to the 22nd and is the world's largest climate summit, attended by representatives from 198 negotiating parties, international organizations, the private sector, and the media, totaling about 40,000 participants.
At this conference, on the 12th, Mayor Lee will participate in the high-level urban representatives session held at the United Nations Global Innovation Hub (UGIH) pavilion to promote Pohang City's achievements in carbon neutrality and present the city's future direction.
On the 13th, he will observe side events at the Korea Pavilion focusing on climate crisis response and energy transition, and share know-how on climate crisis response with outstanding local governments at a meeting hosted by the Local Government Council for Climate Crisis Response and Energy Transition.
On the 14th, he will join a panel discussion in the UGIH City Challenge session to share and discuss innovative solutions to climate change challenges faced by cities.
From the 15th, he will visit Istanbul, T?rkiye, to expand networks in culture, tourism, and arts.
On the 15th, he will visit Beyo?lu, the most vibrant arts and entertainment district in Istanbul, T?rkiye, to hold a friendship exchange agreement ceremony between the two cities. Through this agreement, the city plans to strengthen diversity and competitiveness in Pohang's culture, arts, and tourism sectors via active regional cultural exchanges.
Through this exchange, Pohang, a legally designated cultural city, plans to promote its potential and charm so that various local contents, including the Yeongilman Art & Tech Culture Cluster, can expand into global projects.
Additionally, Mayor Lee Kang-deok will visit Istanbul University, a prestigious university in T?rkiye with a long history, to give a special lecture on "Pohang's Industrial Transformation and Youth Policies for Future Generations" to students majoring in Korean Language and Literature.
After the lecture, an appointment ceremony will be held for 20 university students interested in Korean culture at Istanbul University to promote Pohang's city administration and tourism content as "Pohang City Global (POGUL) SNS Supporters."
Also, the Pohang Cultural Foundation, accompanying this schedule, will visit the Atat?rk Culture Center (AMK), a key institution of the Beyo?lu Culture Road cultural project, to propose exchanges on cultural and artistic projects between the two cities. The Pohang Culture and Tourism Association will sign a mutual exchange and cooperation MOU on regional tourism programs with the Turkey-Korea Cultural Exchange Association.
