Established in 1954, the College of Engineering at Pusan National University celebrated its 70th anniversary this year by holding a grand commemorative event reflecting on seven decades of challenges and innovation, while pledging a new leap toward the future.
The College of Engineering at Pusan National University (Dean Jeong Ju-cheol, Professor of Urban Engineering) held the 'Pusan National University College of Engineering 70th Anniversary Commemoration' on the afternoon of the 4th at the 10·16 Memorial Hall on campus, with 170 attendees including students, faculty, and alumni. The event aimed to share the college’s achievements, revisit the founding spirit and significance, and promote communication and exchange among its members, the university announced on the 7th.

View original imageAt the 70th anniversary ceremony, alumni such as Seo Ui-taek (Class of ’56, Department of Civil Engineering), Chairman of Dongmyeong Cultural Foundation, National Assembly members Han Jeong-ae (Class of ’85, Environmental Engineering) and Cho Kyung-tae (Class of ’86, Civil Engineering), along with Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, Alumni Association President Ahn Jin-woo, and former deans of the College of Engineering attended or sent video messages to celebrate the milestone.
The event began with an opening address by Dean Jeong Ju-cheol, followed by interviews with faculty, students, and industry alumni, a commemorative video showcasing the 70-year history of the college, and a progress report on the compilation of the ‘70-Year History of the College of Engineering’ by former Dean Cho Young-rae, who chaired the compilation committee.
President Choi Jae-won of Pusan National University delivered a lecture, and Dean Jeong Ju-cheol presented the development direction of the College of Engineering. Lectures for juniors were also given by alumni including KonaSol CEO Kang Yoon-geun, Hongik University Professor Lee Yeon-seung, and Seoul National University Professor Park Yoon-mi. The event was further enlivened by a pungmul performance and sand art show by the college’s student club ‘Sallim.’
Dean Jeong Ju-cheol stated, “Over the past 70 years, the College of Engineering at Pusan National University has nurtured talent and contributed to society through innovative research. This commemorative ceremony is not merely a reflection on the past but a starting point for a new leap forward, and we will strive to make the college even more advanced.”

Since opening in 1954, the College of Engineering at Pusan National University has dedicated itself to education and research across various majors, producing outstanding talent and leading the advancement of South Korea’s industrial sector. Currently, it operates 16 departments, including Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Semiconductor Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering.
