"Embed Big Tech DNA"... Startup Competition to Secure Global Talent
Promising Startup Recruits Core Talent from Big Tech as Executive Leadership
Promising startups are challenging scale-up by recruiting key talents from big tech companies into their leadership teams. This is based on the judgment that these experts possess abundant knowledge necessary for rapid decision-making and concrete business direction essential for startup growth. The strategy is to take the lead in the market by actively expanding services or enhancing technological capabilities through professionals who have gained experience in major companies.
According to the startup industry on the 7th, TechTaka, which operates the integrated logistics platform 'Argo,' recently recruited Senior Vice President Chanpil Jeong, who has experience at Amazon and other companies. Logistics expert Jeong has led global market development projects at Amazon since 2017. At Tiki, Vietnam's largest e-commerce platform, he directly built logistics and fast delivery systems optimized for the local market.
TechTaka plans to fully incorporate the experience accumulated by SVP Jeong at Amazon, Tiki, and other companies to strengthen its global logistics network. Currently, TechTaka has established a corporation in Seattle as a foothold for entering the North American logistics market. SVP Jeong said, “TechTaka is unusually strong in IT-centered fulfillment services, with over 74% of its internal members being developers in the logistics industry,” adding, “We will strive to enhance organizational capabilities so that technological excellence can lead to global business synergy.”
Travel startup MyRealTrip recently appointed Jonathan Jung, Chief Experience Officer (CXO), as the head of its internal independent company (CIC) responsible for business-to-business (B2B) operations. The new CEO Jung has overseen user experience at global IT companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Coupang. At Google's headquarters, he served as design lead and led the launch of numerous services including Android and Google Play. CEO Jonathan Jung plans to expand MyRealTrip’s customized travel product, MyPack, and grow its B2B customer base.
Yanolja Cloud also recruited Hyunjung Kim, Global Chief Business Officer (CBO), who has experience at McKinsey & Company, Samsung Electronics, and Google. Kim, who led the U.S. launch of Google Pay 3.0 at Google, will carry out the global expansion of AI services at Yanolja Cloud. Yanolja Cloud expects Kim’s global business expansion experience and marketing expertise to create synergy with its global operations.
Given that 'technological capability' is a key factor determining the success or failure of startups, some have recruited experts with rich development backgrounds from global big tech companies. AI semiconductor startup Rebellion is a representative example. This year, Rebellion hired Dr. Hongseok Kim, a compiler expert from Google, as the head of software architecture. Dr. Kim served as engineering director of the 'Core Machine Learning' team overseeing global machine learning infrastructure at Google and also held the position of head of Google Korea’s research and development (R&D) division. Rebellion is strengthening its software capabilities essential for AI semiconductor products based on Dr. Kim’s expertise.
