'Sky's the limit reservation?'...Songpa-gu starts online booking for all district tennis courts
▲Oryun ▲Songpa ▲Seongnaecheon Tennis Courts: Reservation System Changed and Facility Improvements at 3 Locations with 10 Courts
Phone/Text Reservations → Online Reservations Exclusive to Residents... Increased Publicness, Transparency, and Convenience
Ongoing Renovations for Aging Facilities... Clay Court Backfilling, Repairs, Remodeling, etc.
"The public tennis courts were mainly operated for clubs, so it was difficult to use them easily. But since I heard that online reservations are available, I came here for the first time today. Making a reservation has become much easier, and I can check the status in real time, so I think I will use it often!"
This is a review from a resident (21, Bangi-dong) who visited Seongnaecheon Tennis Courts with family. Recently, the demand for tennis facilities, a popular sport among the MZ generation, has increased, but there are few tennis courts compared to the number of players, and many places operate exclusively for club members, making it extremely difficult to book prime time slots.
To solve this problem, Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) boldly changed the reservation method for public tennis courts in the area from phone and text message to online reservations.
The existing operation consignment contract with the Tennis Association was terminated, and the management was entrusted to the Facilities Management Corporation, improving the reservation system as well.
As a result, a total of 10 courts at three locations?Oryun Tennis Courts (Bangi-dong, 6 courts), Songpa Tennis Courts (Songpa-dong, 2 courts), and Seongnaecheon Tennis Courts (Pungnap-dong, 2 courts)?are now available for online reservation.
In addition, since October, the district has rolled up its sleeves to improve the aging public tennis court facilities. Renovations for Oryun and Seongnaecheon Tennis Courts will be completed by the end of the year, and repairs for Songpa Tennis Courts will be finished next year, providing a high-quality environment for community sports.
The Oryun Tennis Courts, completed in early November, now offer an optimal exercise environment through clay court resurfacing and remodeling of internal facilities such as restrooms, showers, and lounges. The building exterior was repainted with fresh colors, and the environment, which was somewhat barren, was newly renovated to be more welcoming through LED sign replacement and landscaping.
A district official said, "Following Oryun Tennis Courts, Seongnaecheon Tennis Courts, which will begin construction in mid-November, will be converted to green artificial turf courts," adding, "We will continue close consultations with the corporation to ensure fair and transparent operation by adhering firmly to operational principles as well as facility improvements."
Public tennis courts can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis by any Songpa-gu resident through the 'Seoul Metropolitan Public Service Reservation' website. For more detailed information regarding reservations, please contact the Songpa-gu Facilities Management Corporation.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "Public facilities are public assets that all residents have an equal right to use, not the exclusive property of certain individuals," and added, "We will continue to prioritize creativity, innovation, and fairness to create a healthy and vibrant community sports environment and serve the residents, who are the sovereign owners of this land."
