Geumcheon-gu Youth Discuss Global Safety and Peace as Representatives of Various Countries
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will hold the "2nd Geumcheon-gu Youth Model United Nations (UN) Conference" at 1 PM on November 2nd in the auditorium on the 12th floor of Geumcheon-gu Office.
This event was organized to increase youth interest in political, economic, and social issues in the international community and to help develop their international negotiation skills and critical thinking.
Thirty youths aged 14 to 24, residing in Geumcheon-gu or attending schools located in Geumcheon-gu, will participate, with five participants representing one country. The countries represented are North Korea, China, the United States, Russia, France, and India.
"Global Security and Peace" was selected as the single agenda item, and each country's delegation will present their positions on "Preventing the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and the Future of Denuclearization."
The conference will begin with the opening declaration by the youth chairperson, followed by introductions of each country's delegation and the agenda. Each delegation will present their national stance on the agenda through keynote speeches and engage in discussions.
After the discussions, informal consultations among participating countries will be held to form alliances and draft a joint resolution. The final resolution, derived through amendment proposals and debates, will be drafted and voted on, with the results announced.
At the closing ceremony, the final resolution will be announced, and awards will be given to outstanding delegations and ambassadors.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope this Model United Nations conference will help youths develop critical thinking about international issues and learn the values of cooperation and coexistence."

This conference is organized by the Geumcheon Youth Center (Director Im Jong-hwa) and planned as part of the "2024 Geumcheon-gu Children and Youth Council Project." The center is a specialized institution for youth in Geumcheon-gu, operating various events that allow children and youth to participate directly.
