Low-carbon limestone cement is a product developed with support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Carbon Neutral Industry Core Technology Development Project. A Ssangyong C&E official explained, “The first domestic on-site application of low-carbon limestone cement with reduced clinker content is significant in terms of early commercialization of greenhouse gas reduction technologies in the construction sector, as it allows us to evaluate the workability and long-term usability of pavement concrete using this product and consider its expanded application.”
The on-site trial application involved joint participation from Ssangyong C&E, Korea Expressway Corporation, Chung-Ang University, Dongnam Enterprise, KCC Construction, and Gil Solution. Prior to the trial application, various quality verifications such as strength, workability, and durability of the pavement concrete product were completed.
The low-carbon limestone cement developed by Ssangyong C&E features a lower clinker content compared to conventional Type 1 Portland cement, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 6% while maintaining the same performance.

A Ssangyong C&E official stated, “The use of eco-friendly products like low-carbon limestone cement is no longer optional but essential, so research and development in this area is urgent. If a foundation for the large-scale use of limestone cement is established at construction sites in the future, it will greatly contribute to achieving carbon neutrality not only in cement but also in the construction industry.”
