Providing Up to 176 Hours of Care Services Per Month
Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will officially launch a customized integrated care service for individuals with severe developmental disabilities. Starting November 1, the district will provide daytime group 1:1 services, offering systematic care to those with severe disabilities who have been marginalized under the existing care system.
Individuals with severe developmental disabilities have often found it difficult to use existing care services due to risky behaviors such as self-harm and harm to others. To address this, the Ministry of Health and Welfare introduced a customized integrated care service in June, which includes 24-hour individual 1:1, daytime individual 1:1, and daytime group 1:1 services.
Among these, the daytime group 1:1 service providers are selected by local governments. Through a public contest last month, the district chose Yeoksam-dong Gonggam After-School Center and Irwon-dong Ttwieonolja Social Service Center as institutions to provide safe and professional services.
The daytime group 1:1 service targets individuals aged 18 to under 65 with severe developmental disabilities, providing up to 8 hours per day and a maximum of 176 hours per month from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Customized support plans are developed for each user to assist with meaningful daytime activities such as daily living training, hobby support, and independent living training.
Those wishing to use the service can apply by visiting their local community service center. For more details, inquiries can be made to the district office’s Disability Welfare Division or to Gonggam After-School Center and Ttwieonolja Social Service Center.
District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, “We hope this integrated care service will provide practical help to individuals with severe developmental disabilities and their families who have been in the blind spots of existing care.” He added, “We will continue to expand customized services that can enhance social participation for people with developmental disabilities.”
