Paju-si Holds Citizen Forum to Promote the Necessity of Designating an Economic Free Zone
“Attracting Economic Free Zones is the First Step to Realizing a Self-Sufficient City of One Million”… Experts, Entrepreneurs, and Citizens in Unison
Gyeonggi Paju City (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 29th that it held a citizen forum on the 28th at the multipurpose hall of the Asia Publishing Culture Information Center in the publishing complex to discuss the necessity of designating Paju City as an economic free zone and to build public consensus among citizens.
This forum served as an opportunity to emphasize that the designation of an economic free zone is an essential task to realize Paju as a self-sufficient city of one million people and to highlight Paju's growth potential. The event was attended by about 150 people, including Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City, experts from various fields, businesspeople supporting the promotion of the economic free zone, and citizens.
At the forum, Lee Won-bin, an economic free zone expert and professor of economics at Yonsei University, gave a presentation on the topic "The Necessity of Designating Paju as an Economic Free Zone."
Following this, a public discussion was held with Professor Kim Gap-sung of Yonsei University's Department of Urban Engineering as the chair, and participants including Yoo Seung-kyung, former director of the Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency, Lee Sang-hoon, honorary research fellow at the Gyeonggi Research Institute, and Hong Jin-gi, honorary research fellow at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade. They communicated with citizens on the necessity of designating the economic free zone and the development direction of Paju City.
Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju said, "The first step toward realizing a self-sufficient city of one million people and a greater Paju, as well as the driving force for Paju's leap into a global advanced business city in the northwest of Gyeonggi, is the promotion of the Paju economic free zone." He added, "We will make every effort to designate the economic free zone by leveraging Paju's unique strengths, including numerous advanced industry companies, media and content companies, and the potential of the life-health (biohealth) industry centered on the medical cluster."

Paju City is currently establishing a basic plan for the "designation of the economic free zone" and plans to prepare without delay for the Gyeonggi Province contest by devising investment attraction strategies for each core industry according to the schedule.
