Archbishop Jeong Sun-taek's Memorial Message on the 2nd Anniversary of the Itaewon Disaster: "Hoping for a Safe Community"
"Reaffirming the Importance of Maintaining a Community That Ensures Safety and Dignity"
Jeong Sun-taek, Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul, ahead of the 2nd anniversary of the Itaewon tragedy, stated on the 24th, "I hope our society fulfills its responsibility to prevent the same tragedy from happening again and becomes a community that cares for each other with solidarity and consideration."
In the memorial message released that day, Archbishop Jeong said, "This tragedy reminded us once again how important it is to maintain a community where we can protect each other's safety and dignity."
He continued, "I deeply mourn the victims who sadly passed away and offer my condolences to the bereaved families and all those who have suffered from this incident," adding, "I sincerely pray that the Lord embraces their wounds and pain."
Furthermore, he added, "I sincerely pray that the Lord's mercy will always be with the survivors who are still unable to escape the painful memories."
