On the 23rd, the county held a regular briefing at the county office briefing room and announced that it is making every effort to promote and support various projects, including the development of the Gyeokryeolbiyeoldo National Coastal Port and support for the Yeongmok Port National Fishing Port development, to build the "New Marine City Taean."
The Gyeokryeolbiyeoldo National Coastal Port development project aims to enhance the value of Gyeokryeolbiyeoldo, an island marking the territorial baseline in the central West Sea, and to safeguard maritime territory. By 2030, the project will invest 47.8 billion KRW in national funds to construct a 66-meter breakwater, a 135-meter pier, and a helipad, among other facilities.
The county, with County Governor Ka Se-ro visiting the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in April to facilitate smooth progress, is actively promoting Gyeokryeolbiyeoldo by enacting the "Ordinance on Enhancing the Value of Gyeokryeolbiyeoldo in Taean County" and designating July 4 as "Gyeokryeolbiyeoldo Day" with a proclamation ceremony.
The Yeongmok Port National Fishing Port development project aims to establish Yeongmok Port, the "new gateway of Taean," as a hub for fisheries and tourism leisure in the central West Sea region. With 58.2 billion KRW in national funds, the project will construct a 344-meter breakwater, a 376-meter revetment, and a 120-meter floating breakwater, as well as dredging works, by 2028.
Construction design services are scheduled to begin in the first half of next year. Upon completion, the project is expected to boost local development by improving and expanding infrastructure, leading to increased tourism and higher incomes for fishermen.
The "CLEAN National Fishing Port Project" will also be promoted until 2026.
Since last year, the county has been implementing a total of 12 projects in the Anheung Port area of Sinjindo-ri, Geunheung-myeon, with 15.3 billion KRW in national funds. These projects include the creation of Anheung Narae Park, improvement of the area around the western breakwater, construction of a coastal walkway, environmental maintenance of the fishing gear yard, road paving, and fence installation.
This project, overseen by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, aims to make fishing ports pleasant and convenient spaces by maintaining the port environment, upgrading existing facilities, and improving outdated infrastructure.
In addition, the county plans to steadily promote mid- to long-term development projects such as the Anheung (Outer) Port Development Project (2022-2033), the Dangam Port Local Fishing Port Development Project (2024-2031), the Eoeundol Beach Area Coastal Maintenance Project (2020-2024), and the Yeongmok Port to Otjeom Port Coastal Scenic Road Construction (2022-2030).
Go Hyunjung, Director of the Marine Industry Division, said, "We are making multifaceted efforts, including participating in various public contests, so that Taean County can become the nation's top marine city by leveraging its outstanding marine resources," adding, "We will meticulously oversee every detail to ensure the success of all projects."
