On the 22nd, Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province signed a sister city agreement with Buyeo County in Chungcheongnam-do at the City Hall Vision Hall to promote mutual development.
The signing ceremony was attended by Gwangju Mayor Bang Se-hwan, Buyeo County Governor Park Jeong-hyun, chairpersons and members of the city and county councils of both cities, and about 30 related officials.
Through this agreement, the two cities agreed to actively strive for mutual development through active exchanges in various fields such as administration, culture, sports, economy, and education, and to promote understanding, harmony, and welfare improvement among residents through diverse exchange cooperation that reflects regional characteristics.
Buyeo County is a historic and cultural city that encompasses prehistoric, ancient, and Confucian cultures, and is especially notable as the last capital of Baekje. It is expected to have high potential for mutual development and common similarities with Gwangju City, which was the early capital of Baekje under King Onjo.
Additionally, Buyeo boasts seven types of agricultural specialties, including watermelon, chestnuts, and mushrooms, with the largest production volume nationwide, raising expectations for active exchanges in urban agriculture fields such as direct trade markets for agricultural specialties through Gwangju’s Natural Food Farm Center.
