The ‘Robot Making Talent Volunteer Group,’ founded in July 2022 by Assistant Manager Hong Seong-ju of the Hot Rolling Department, provides ‘maker education’ that enables students at local children’s centers to implement their creative ideas through hardware and software.
Students use Raspberry Pi (a credit card-sized single-board computer) to create projects such as a Hunminjeongeum game console, an automatically opening trash can, and a memory test game, developing their digital device skills and problem-solving abilities.
Also, the ‘Gaepyeonhan Sesang Companion Animal Volunteer Group,’ established in May 2021 and led by a young volunteer leader, is a representative volunteer group. Currently, employee Kim Sang-jin of the Production Technology Department, who took over as volunteer leader in his second year at the company, has been managing the group since then.
About 60 volunteer members use their personal time to receive basic companion animal care education and conduct volunteer activities every weekend at local companion animal organizations and animal shelters for abandoned animals.
Employee Kim Sang-jin said, “As the population raising companion animals increases, the number of abandoned, lost animals and animal abuse is also rising. I want to contribute even a little to creating a companion animal-friendly culture through volunteering.”
In addition, various volunteer groups such as the ‘Wow Sharing Coding Volunteer Group,’ which teaches coding skills to youth and marginalized groups, and the ‘Drone Volunteer Group,’ which provides drone experience opportunities, are actively spreading a culture of sharing and striving to meet community needs.

POSCO employees participate in company volunteer activities through the ‘Sharing Activity Support System,’ which supports part of the necessary costs for employees and their families. The company also operates a ‘Sharing Mileage’ system that awards plaques for volunteering a certain number of hours, membership in the 10,000 Hours Honors Club, and volunteer certification marks within the internal system to help outstanding volunteers feel a sense of achievement and pride.
