In his welcoming speech, Mayor Hong said, “Nuclear power, a carbon-free energy source that can overcome the intermittency of renewable energy and meet the increasing energy demand driven by the growth of the big tech industry, is gaining global attention. Among them, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are being recognized as the future of nuclear power plants.” He added, “SMRs are expected to have significantly enhanced safety compared to large nuclear power plants and are being developed in various models by several countries as next-generation energy sources that can drastically shorten construction periods.”
