KOSPI Shows Intraday Weakness Amid Foreigners' Net Selling Pressure
The KOSPI index is showing weakness during the session, pressured by net selling from foreign investors.
As of 10:50 a.m. on the 18th, the KOSPI index is trading at 2602.45, down 0.28% from the previous day.
By investor type, institutions and individuals are net buyers of 43.4 billion KRW and 168.7 billion KRW respectively, while foreigners are net sellers of 219.1 billion KRW. In the futures market, foreigners are also net sellers of 169.8 billion KRW, whereas institutions and individuals are net buyers of 150.2 billion KRW and 33.1 billion KRW respectively, showing contrasting trends.
By sector, telecommunications is up 1.76%, pharmaceuticals 1.71%, securities 1.27%, steel and metals 0.76%, finance 0.54%, services 0.41%, electricity and gas 0.32%, textiles and apparel 0.44%, and transportation and warehousing 0.16%. On the other hand, machinery is down 1.92%, medical precision -1.49%, electrical and electronics -1.16%, manufacturing -0.58%, paper and wood -0.54%, and transportation equipment -0.42%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, performances are mixed. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are down 0.17% and 3.37% respectively, and LG Energy Solution is also down 2.14%. Shinhan Financial Group and Samsung C&T are down 0.53% and 0.51% respectively. Conversely, Samsung Biologics is up 2.83%, Hyundai Motor 0.21%, Celltrion 0.26%, Kia 0.32%, and KB Financial Group 1.28%.
The KOSDAQ index is falling more sharply than the KOSPI today. At the same time, the KOSDAQ index is trading at 755.66, down 1.24% from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners are net sellers of 104 billion KRW and 87.3 billion KRW respectively, while individuals are net buyers of 198.3 billion KRW.
Most of the top market capitalization stocks are weak. Ecopro BM and Ecopro are down 1.62% and 0.74% respectively, Classys -0.81%, Enchem -2.69%, Hugel -1.88%, Samchundang Pharmaceutical -4.58%, and Lino Industrial -5.45%. Meanwhile, Alteogen is up 0.91%.

Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the KRW/USD exchange rate is trading at 1371.4 won, down 1.3 won from the previous day.
