Exploring Resource Circulation Measures for Incinerated Bedding Materials

Climate tech startup Jeclin announced on the 17th that it has signed a business agreement for the ‘Used Blanket Circular Economy’ to promote a resource circulation pilot project together with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Jeju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, Evejari, Korea Environment Corporation Gwangju Jeonnam Jeju Environmental Headquarters, and Jeju City Upcycling Center.

This pilot project was initiated to explore regeneration methods for textile resources, which were previously incinerated, through the resource circulation of bedding (used blankets). It aims to contribute to the establishment of a Jeju-type circular economy society while providing a leading model for nationwide expansion of such resource circulation methods in the future.

To ensure the successful promotion of the pilot project, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will be responsible for various administrative supports and public promotion among residents. Jeju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation will also support this project as part of the Jeju-type open innovation initiative. The Korea Environment Corporation Gwangju Jeonnam Jeju Environmental Headquarters will provide consulting for the temporary collection site of used blankets and the expansion of bedding resource circulation during the pilot project period. Evejari plans to offer discount coupons for its products when customers bring in used blankets at their stores and will also promote the commercialization of recycled regenerated products.

Jeclin will oversee the overall management of the pilot project and will be responsible for upcycling used blankets collected within the province and manufacturing regenerated products. This project is scheduled to be conducted on a pilot basis in November and December. Further plans for project expansion will be explored additionally.

Cha Seung-su, CEO of Jeclin, said, “This pilot project is significant as it marks the first step in presenting a new model of resource circulation for bedding through the cooperation of various stakeholders combining their expertise and capabilities.” He added, “We expect it to become a model case for establishing a circular economy in South Korea beyond a simple pilot project, and we will continue to strive to create various cooperative ecosystems to contribute to environmental protection and social value creation.”
