Gwangju City Councilor Park Sugi, "Continuous Measures for Teacher Quota Reduction Are..."
Request for City Education Office's City Administration Inquiry on the 14th
Park Su-gi, a member of the Gwangju City Council (representing Suwan, Hanam, and Imgok districts in Gwangsan-gu), during the education office's policy questioning held on the 14th, pointed out that according to the Ministry of Education's plan to reduce the number of teachers, the number of elementary school teachers has been reduced by 98 to 110 annually, and middle school teachers by 65 to 90 annually over the past three years, and called for fundamental measures.
Councilor Park stated, “If the Ministry of Education proceeds with the rapid reduction of teacher quotas as planned due to the decline in the school-age population, the increase in class hours and the rise in non-teaching school duties will exacerbate the difficulties in the teaching environment, ultimately leading to a decline in the quality of education, and the damage will be passed on to the students.”
Park also noted that in the response distributed in advance by the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, measures such as ▲minimizing the dispatch of teachers and ▲integrating small-scale schools were proposed, and he requested specific plans for these measures, but criticized that the responses remained at a theoretical level.
