Legendary Musical 17th Season 'Chicago'
18th~20th at Goyang Aram Nuri Aram Theater
The Goyang Cultural Foundation (Chairman Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 14th that the musical "Chicago," which has set records with 1,500 cumulative performances and 1.54 million cumulative audience members since its Korean premiere in 2000, will be performed for three days from the 18th to the 20th at the Goyang Aram Nuri Aram Theater.
Marking its 17th season this year, the musical "Chicago" is stepping toward reaching a cumulative audience of 1.6 million, fueled by the passionate love of its audience.
The musical "Chicago" features 29 actors, a 15-piece live big band, and a staff who have worked together for 17 years. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic in the 2021 season, it achieved a 96% audience occupancy rate, setting the highest record ever and proving the saying "Classics are eternal." This season, the leading stars of that success?Choi Jung-won, Yoon Gong-ju, Ivy, Tiffany Young, Min Kyung-ah, Park Gun-hyung, Choi Jae-rim, Kim Young-joo, and Kim Kyung-sun?will reunite to rekindle the fiery passion of 2021.
In particular, 17 ensemble actors who passed a fierce audition process that began last year, along with Jung Sun-ah, will join to present an even hotter and deeper musical "Chicago."
The musical "Chicago" was first staged in 1975 by the legendary musical figure Bob Fosse and was revived in 1996 by director Walter Bobbie and choreographer Ann Reinking. The production has been performed over 10,500 times during 26 years on Broadway, making it the longest-running American musical in Broadway history.
Additionally, the musical "Chicago" has won awards in more than 55 categories at the world's most prestigious ceremonies, including the Tony Awards and Olivier Awards. It has been performed over 33,500 times in 525 cities across 38 countries worldwide, attracting more than 34 million audience members, making it a true symbol of Broadway musicals. Notably, the opening number "All That Jazz" from "Chicago" is a mega-hit musical number that has been sung or performed in dialogue over 715,000 times in 13 different languages.
