Gwangju City announced on the 14th that its flagship welfare policy, ‘Gwangju-daum Integrated Care,’ has been selected as an excellent case in the ‘Government Innovation Championship’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, advancing to the finals. ‘Gwangju-daum Integrated Care’ was recognized for its innovative achievements and was the only metropolitan local government to be selected as an excellent case in the ‘2024 Government Innovation Championship ? Government Solving Problems’ category.
Since April last year, Gwangju City has provided 26 types of ‘Gwangju-daum Integrated Care’ services, supporting over 16,000 people within one year of implementation. It was especially praised as an innovative model that changed the social care paradigm and received the International Urban Innovation Award from the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).
The ‘Government Innovation Championship’ is a competition hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to discover and spread excellent innovation cases. Starting this year, it selects outstanding cases in three categories: ▲Future-Ready Government ▲Problem-Solving Government ▲Digital Government, and then chooses the final ‘champion of champions.’
‘Gwangju-daum Integrated Care’ is not merely a project to establish new care services but innovated the delivery system from discovering (applying) care citizens to supporting (linking) services, contributing to solving livelihood issues and eliminating administrative blind spots. The process of designing the project through public-private-government-academic cooperation to resolve problems caused by the selective and application-based nature of the existing care system also drew attention. Gwangju City’s ‘Gwangju-daum Integrated Care’ was the only excellent case selected among metropolitan local governments.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will finalize the champion of champions through a public presentation evaluation on November 14 at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju, after expert review of the 15 excellent cases that advanced to the finals.
