Amid nationwide celebrations for author Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature win, administrative authorities have also joined in the applause.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government exhibited a total of 216 copies of 10 titles by the author, including 'The Vegetarian' and 'Human Acts,' at three outdoor libraries in Seoul: Book Reading Seoul Plaza, Gwanghwamun Book Yard, and Clear Stream Book Reading. Meanwhile, Jongno-gu in Seoul quickly drew attention by hanging a congratulatory banner celebrating the local resident and novelist Han Kang's Nobel Prize win.
The banner, which read "Congratulations to Han Kang, the pride of 630-year-old Jongno, on winning the Nobel Prize in Literature," was installed in various locations throughout the area, including the traditional pavilion in front of Tongin Market.
This is seen as reflecting the distinctive sensibility of Jeong Moon-heon, the re-elected member of the National Assembly and head of Jongno-gu.
A Jongno-gu official remarked, "We are grateful for raising pride in our literature. We, the residents of Jongno-gu and the people of the Republic of Korea, will remember this glorious moment for a long time."
