Police Conduct Search and Seizure at Incheon Airport Customs Over Suspected Drug Smuggling Involvement
Police Chief: "Significant Progress in Investigation"
The police have launched a forced investigation into Incheon Airport customs officers suspected of assisting in the smuggling of methamphetamine into the country.
On the 11th, the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul announced that they conducted a search and seizure at Incheon Airport customs from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the previous day, targeting seven customs officers who were booked as suspects on charges including dereliction of duty.
They are accused of assisting a multinational drug organization composed of members from Korea, China, and Malaysia in smuggling a large quantity of methamphetamine into the country through Incheon Airport's security checkpoint. The methamphetamine the organization attempted to smuggle in was a total of 74 kg, enough for approximately 2.46 million doses at once. Previously, the police had applied for warrants twice in April, but these were dismissed at the prosecution stage.
