Skeleton Found in Abandoned Truck... Police Unaware Despite On-Site Investigation
Discovered Following Report by Nearby Passing Citizen
A skeletonized body was found in a burnt truck discovered in Iksan, Jeonbuk, prompting the police to launch an investigation. It was reported that the police had inspected the truck two months ago after receiving a report but did not find the body at that time.
According to Yonhap News on the 9th, the Iksan Police Station received a report on July 20th stating that "a truck has been abandoned under the embankment for 1 to 2 months." Subsequently, two officers, Inspector A and Sergeant B from Mangsung Police Substation, were dispatched to the scene. At the reported location, a 1-ton truck was found stopped in a densely overgrown rice field, and after searching the truck, the police determined that the vehicle had been abandoned.

Vehicle registration inquiry revealed that the truck was owned by a man in his 60s residing in Gimje, but contact with him could not be established, and it was understood that his family had also lost contact with him long ago. The police then inquired with the Iksan City Hall, which manages abandoned vehicles, and after being informed that the truck would be towed soon, the report was closed.
However, on the 3rd, a citizen passing near the scene reported to the police that there was a skeletonized body in the truck. Only then did the police confirm the presence of the skeletonized body in the vehicle and began related investigations, including an autopsy.

Regarding why the body was not discovered during the initial investigation, the police explained to the media, "In July, heavy rain fell in Mangsung-myeon, and the rice field was knee-deep in water." They added, "The officers changed into raincoats and entered the site to search, but it seems they were unable to properly check." The police plan to investigate the specific circumstances of the incident through vehicle forensics and other means.
