Various Flower Path Gardens Created Including Nanji Theme Tourism Forest Trail, Sunshine Center Flower Path, and Spring-Summer-Fall-Winter Flower Path Gardens
Mapo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Gang-su) will declare "Mapo, the City of Flowers and Gardens" at the "Mapo Garden Festival" on October 15, in line with the climate crisis era to practice carbon neutrality and improve residents' quality of life.
The "Mapo Garden Festival" will be held from October 14 to 18 at the Shinsu-dong Temporary Garden, offering various experiential programs that children and families can participate in together.
Through activities such as "Making Decorative Stones" and "Garden Picnic," participants can connect with nature and create special memories. The "Create Your Own Small Garden" program using seasonal flowers is expected to help relieve stress and promote mental and physical stability.
Starting in 2024, the district is actively promoting the "Our Neighborhood Garden Creation Project," which includes village gardens and citizen participation gardens where residents can cultivate and enjoy flowers and gardens in their daily lives, as well as market gardens in collaboration with local merchant associations.
In particular, the district is leading efforts to create spaces where residents can interact with nature beyond simple resting places.
For example, to comfort the long-standing sorrow of Nanji Island and restore its beautiful old name, a "Nanji Theme Tourism Forest Trail" was created along the 1.6 km Metasequoia Road in Nanji Sky Park.
This area is planted with 370,000 herbaceous plants of 11 species, including Lycoris radiata, spider lilies, and Liriope muscari, symbolizing the 370,000 residents of Mapo-gu.
The clusters of Lycoris radiata harmonized with the green Metasequoia forest path offer a fantastic beauty, and the Nanji Theme Tourism Forest Trail has quickly become a popular attraction.
Also, the newly created "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter Park" in September 2024 has transformed into a resting place where visitors can enjoy beautiful flowers throughout all four seasons. The existing Boksa Flower Children's Park was renovated with various flowers that bloom at different times, providing a space where visitors can rest in nature anytime.
A flower path has been established around the Mapo-gu Health Center Sunlight Center for pregnant women and their families. This flower path includes photo zones and healing phrases, offering a space where pregnant women can create special memories along with prenatal care. Notably, the 1,600 planted herbaceous plants symbolize the number of newborns born in Mapo-gu, adding deeper meaning.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "The declaration of 'Mapo, the City of Flowers and Gardens' will be an important milestone in responding to the climate crisis and improving residents' quality of life. Mapo-gu will do its best for sustainable development by creating an environment where residents can enjoy nature anytime through various garden creation projects."
