Hongseong County to Establish New 90ha Gim Aquaculture Farm
Hongseong County in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 8th that it will establish a laver farm covering an area of 90 hectares.
The county decided to expand the farm in response to increasing domestic and international demand for laver.
The newly secured farming area was confirmed to be suitable for laver cultivation through test research fishing since 2021, which examined water temperature, nutrient levels, and water depth.
The new farm will be operated under licenses by the Namdang Fishing Village Association and the Gwangcheon Gimyeong Fisheries Cooperative Corporation.
Lee Hwasun, head of the Marine and Fisheries Division, said, "By expanding the farm, we expect to strengthen our position as a major laver production area and significantly increase the income of local fishermen. We will provide multifaceted support to enhance the competitiveness of the fisheries industry."
