The regionally specialized variety harvested that day, 'Yeorihyang,' is a medium-glutinous rice variety developed by the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services to meet diverse consumer demands. It has a savory aroma and excellent taste, leading to recent increases in production and consumption.
Kim Seong-jung, the First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "With rapid climate and environmental changes, the importance of varietal diversity is increasing," and emphasized, "Gyeonggi Province will promote the production and distribution of high-quality seeds such as foundation and certified seeds, as well as regionally specialized and native seed varieties."
