Immediately after the accident, the Tongyeong Coast Guard was dispatched following a report from the ship's crew who attempted their own rescue. They searched the nearby sea and underwater areas but could not locate A.
The search operation involved two patrol vessels, one Tongyeong rescue team vessel, two coastal rescue boats, one fireboat, eight civilian rescue boats, and one drone.
On the morning of the 4th, the day after the accident, the Coast Guard continued the search and found A in a state of cardiac arrest at a depth of 3 meters, about 100 meters north of the accident site.
The Coast Guard recovered A and transported him to a nearby hospital using a transport vehicle. They plan to investigate the exact cause of the accident based on statements from those involved.
A Tongyeong Coast Guard official stated, "Visibility is more limited at night than during the day, and the risk of accidents is higher," and added, "When sailing at night, be extra vigilant of your surroundings and always wear safety equipment such as life jackets."
