Changwon Special City Successfully Holds 28th Senior Citizens' Day Ceremony

On the 4th, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam successfully held the '28th Senior Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony and Silver Festival' at the Masan Indoor Gymnasium, organized by the Changwon-si Masan Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association.

This year marks the 28th Senior Citizens' Day, an event held with the wishes of the Masan Branch to improve the quality of life and rights of seniors and to strive for a world where the elderly are happy, gathering over 1,500 seniors for the occasion.

The ceremony was attended by Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Son Tae-hwa, Chairman of the Changwon City Council, local provincial and city council members, Kim Jong-hyo, President of the Changwon Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, Bae Sin-gi, President of the Jinhae Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, and other distinguished guests, who reflected on the significance of establishing Senior Citizens' Day and offered their congratulations.

The event included awards for 26 individuals who contributed to senior welfare, a Hangung competition with 30 teams to promote friendship, and performances such as aerobics and health exercises that seniors had practiced through senior center programs, creating a joyful festival atmosphere.

In his congratulatory speech, Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "The remarkable economic growth and cultural development that the world admires are valuable achievements made possible by the dedication of our seniors." He added, "To ensure a healthy and dignified retirement, the city will provide tailored welfare services for a super-aged society, including building a day care center for seniors with dementia and expanding free city bus fares for those aged 75 and above."
