"If You Buy Apples, We'll Move"… Chinese Farmers Block Road in Standoff
Apples Laid Out in a Row Obstruct Vehicle Traffic
A Chinese apple farm caused traffic congestion by spreading apples in the middle of the road to sell them.
According to China's Xinhua News Agency, the incident occurred on the 26th of last month on a road in Zhaoyang District, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, China. A video capturing the situation shows merchants who grow apples blocking vehicle traffic by lining up apples on the road to sell them.
As a result, drivers were trapped with no way to move, leading to traffic congestion. Some drivers even opened their car doors and got out to assess the situation. One driver, pressed for time, reportedly stepped on the apples and drove through, which led to an argument with the merchants.
Local police, who were dispatched after receiving reports, quickly arrived at the scene and carried out road restoration work by removing the apple farmers. Netizens who learned of the news expressed various reactions such as "It's like robbery," "How could they come up with such an idea," "This would make me less willing to buy from them," "The police should respond strictly," and "Blocking the road is illegal."
