Kim Wankyeom, Director of Administrative Support Bureau of Guri City, is holding a regular press briefing on the 26th.
The city of Guri in Gyeonggi Province raised the need for institutional improvements regarding the emergency urgent questions posed by the Guri City Council.
On the 26th, Kim Wankyeom, Director of Administrative Support at Guri City, stated in a regular press briefing that regarding the emergency urgent questions conducted at the 340th extraordinary session of the Guri City Council, “There are regrettable points, and we respectfully request institutional improvements.”
Director Kim pointed out about the emergency urgent questions held on the 13th, “There are no specific criteria for the requirements of emergency urgent questions, and if abused, it could lead to a waste of administrative resources.”
He continued, “The emergency urgent questions related to the current vacancy of the Deputy Mayor are issues that have been answered countless times since the start of the 8th elected term through administrative audits and responses to city administration questions,” adding, “There were no newly revealed facts or questions through the emergency urgent questions.”
Director Kim added, “Although emergency urgent questions are intended to ask questions and receive answers within a limited time, most of the time was spent on questioning, and there was hardly any time given for answers, raising doubts about whether there was a genuine intention to hear responses on the urgent issues.”
Furthermore, Director Kim pointed out that media reports related to the expansion of the policy advisor’s scope of work during the emergency urgent questions could cause misunderstandings among citizens, emphasizing that the role of the policy advisor is lawful.
